Flit & Fleet: The Life Principle of Loyalty
Flit & Fleet: The Life Principle of Loyalty
Flit & Fleet tells the story of pair of roadrunners who are loyal to one another and remain true-hearted in spite of the difficulties of life that are common in the territory they inhabit year-round. They are interesting members of the cuckoo family, and if you were to share the opinion of some Mexican Indian and American Indian tribes, you would consider it good luck to see a roadrunner.
Exhibiting loyalty to one’s friends, family, school, and employer ranks at the top of the chart for making a person valuable in each of these relationships. Conversely, disloyalty undermines every relationship: friendships cannot flourish in an environment without trust; the deep bonds of affection between family members weaken; the sense of belonging necessary to self-esteem is squelched; and an employer does not want workers who cannot be trusted. Students need to grasp loyalty’s essential role in one’s life.
The book includes supplement pages for use by teachers and parents featuring quotations, enriched vocabulary from the text of the story, subject/content area integration points, critical thinking questions, and writing/storytelling prompts.
