Good Citizen Jack gives the view of how a grade school boy adapts to his family’s move to Hawai’i and how he learns about citizenship in the bargain. Some of Jack’s experiences – snorkeling, viewing endangered monk seals, dodging a backyard mongoose, and helping to protect Hawai’ian nēnē geese – are unique to the islands that make up the 50 th U.S. state. However, the principles of good citizenship which Jack learns are applicable in the lives of young people in all of the other 49 states as well.
